Australian police probe soldier who shot unarmed Afghan

An Australian special forces soldier filmed shooting an unarmed Afghan man has been suspended from duty and the case referred to police, officials said. The Special Air Services (SAS) member, whose identity has not been made public, was seen shooting the Afghan man in 2012 in video filmed by another soldier and broadcast Monday by national broadcaster ABC. Brazilian senator shot during strike by military police

A Brazilian senator was shot Wednesday while trying to intervene in an illegal military police strike in the northeastern state of Ceara, video from the chaotic scene shows. Cid Gomes, who is also governor of that state, was shot in the chest and taken to an area hospital. The hospital said later in the evening that the senator was in stable condition. Boy, 2, shot in road rage incident in Baltimore

Oct. 12 (UPI) — A 2-year-boy is in stable condition after being shot early Saturday morning in a road rage incident, police said. At a news conference, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Police Commissioner Michael Harrison described the incident as “an act of road rage. The suspect, who should be considered “armed and dangerous,” was driving a silver or gray minivan, Harrison said. Sept. 29 (UPI) — A New York City police officer was shot and killed during a struggle with an armed suspect early Sunday morning, officials said. The New York City Police Department Commissioner James O’Neil announced that officer Brian Mulkeen, 33, was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Sunday after being transported to Jacobi Medical Center. The 27-year-old suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was also shot and killed.
