Pete Buttigieg Gets Taunted, Chased Out of Campaign Stop Gone Wrong

Call it “Boy Meets World.” Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg, the youthful former mayor of South Bend, Illinois, got a rude awakening Tuesday during a campaign stop at a union event in Charleston, South Carolina. It didn’t go as planned – unless Buttigieg planned on being taunted by protesters, then basically chased to his waiting vehicle while trying to conduct a harried television interview. The Failed Russiagate Playbook Can’t Stop Bernie Sanders

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on February 11, 2020, the night of the 2020 New Hampshire primary. (Matt Rourke / AP Photo) The latest round of Russian interference panic followed a familiar script. Vague leaks that US intelligence officials have determined that Russia intends to boost both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders made front-page headlines. Cable news pundits and Democratic luminaries seized the moment with ritual alarmism: “The Russians are coming” MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough pronounced, and Trump—who “is a Russian operative” (MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell) and “Putin’s puppet” (Hillary Clinton) “is trying to cover it up” (CNN’s Don ... Will Congress pick up where the DOJ left off and stop Ticketmaster-Live Nation’s anti-competitive practices? | American Enterprise Institute

That’s close to the tile of my op-ed in today’s Real Clear Markets, here’s a slightly shortened version: When Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010, many feared that the new giant would use its dominant position in the concert touring business to pressure venues into contracting with Ticketmaster, which now controls 80 percent of ticket sales at the nation’s largest venues. Those fears came true — Live Nation Entertainment has since systematically and strategically attempted to control the entire ticket supply chain and the prices consumers pay. The Department of Justice (DOJ) sought to limit the company’s attempts to ... Read more

Is Bernie cruising to the nomination? And is it too late for anyone to stop him?

Washington Dear reader: Is the presidential primary contest closer to over than many Democrats realize? Yesterday, FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver projected that after Super Tuesday – essentially two weeks from today – Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will have accumulated 41% of delegates. To which former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe responded: “If this happens, Sanders would have a pledged delegate lead he’ll never relinquish.” In other words, while party stalwarts are increasingly panicking over the prospect of nominating a 78-year old self-proclaimed democratic socialist as their standard bearer – and we keep hearing about a “Stop Sanders” movement in the offing – it may already be too late. ... Prince Harry to Stop Using Honorary Military Roles for Now, But They Won’t Be Given Away

Max Mumby/IndigoGetty Images Earlier today, Buckingham Palace revealed several details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new arrangement—including some interesting specifics about Harry’s honorary military appointments. Last month, when the palace first announced the outline of a plan for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it was made clear that Harry would step down from all of his honorary roles in the UK military. Specifically, the announcement stated that the couple would be “required to step back from royal duties, including official military appointments.” Now, it seems there will at least be a transition period. A spokesperson for Harry and ... Read more

These military clinics will stop taking 200,000 non-active duty patients. Here’s the list.

More than 200,000 Tricare beneficiaries, including 80,000 active-duty family members, will no longer be seen at 37 military health clinics across the country in the coming years, according to a Department of Defense report sent to Congress Wednesday. The Pentagon is planning major changes to 50 military health facilities that will force many beneficiaries to find civilian doctors in their communities over the course of two to four years. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Thomas McCaffery said Wednesday that the realignment supports the department’s effort to support the military health system’s return to focusing on troop health and ... Stop Calling It “Innovation”

Tim Robberts/Getty Images Let me start with the obvious: Innovation is the buzzword. In fact, it has been the buzzword for so long, you could say we’ve developed a cult around it. Board of Innovation, a global consulting firm, estimates that there are about 70,000 books on innovation available for purchase right now. If you read at a pace of 20 pages per day, it would take you about two and a half years to go through them all. Looking for a shortcut? A Google search will yield you nearly 2 billion results.  This publication alone offers 4,858 digital articles ... Read more

Stop dirty lenses from ruining your photos

Unless you’re Kylo Ren, you probably don’t have an army of Stormtroopers to clean your lenses for you. So you might as well just learn how to do it yourself.James Pond via Unsplash My grandmother always told me to wear clean underpants everyday in case I got hit by a car—and to keep my camera lens clean in case I needed to take a good photo. Granted, I made that last part up, but the fact that I invented it doesn’t make it less of a truth. Using a dirty camera lens is like looking at the world through a ... Read more
