Center for Veteran and Military Students at IU receives a $1 million donation
A $1 million donation from IU alumnus Larry McDaniel and Brenda McDaniel will be used to build a more permanent space for veteran students on campus.
The gift was presented to the Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Veteran and Military Students to help military-connected and veteran students, according to a press release.
The Center for Veteran and Military Students provides support, tutoring and programming for veteran and military-connected students. The center is located at 823 E. 11th St.
McDaniel attended IU in the 1970s after being discharged from the U.S. Navy. He said he had help with navigating college from another veteran who was also an assistant dean of students. After graduating, McDaniel worked at Marathon Petroleum, one of the country’s largest petroleum refineries.
After McDaniel visited the Center for Veteran and Military Students in 2018 on a campus visit, he immediately wanted to be involved, according to the release.
This gift will count toward the $3 billion fundraising goal for the IU Bicentennial Campaign, according to the release.
