Donald Trump and the Second Civil War – An Injustice!
From 1861–1865, the United States was at war with itself. The Confederate States of America (originally comprised of South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas and later Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina) had a president, vice president, and a Constitution of their own. The reason for their combined secession was racism, plain and simple.
Defenders of the “War of Northern Aggression” will say it was for state’s rights. For the continuation of what southerners saw as an agricultural boom due to the enslavement of black people.
Those people are making excuses, trying to defend a way of life that was not only immoral, but cruel and inhumane.
Vice President of the Confederacy Alexander H. Stevens said that the ideology of the “new country” was as follows:
“…upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition…” [source]
Are you sure the Civil War wasn’t about racism? Because it seems that way to me.
The Confederate States of America was never recognized as a formal country despite its best efforts. Millions upon millions of people died in a war that never should have happened in the first place.
With Donald Trump as president, I fear that instead of moving forward, we are being pulled back in time to one of the darkest blemishes of American history.
People (read: children) are already being kept in cages on the border, without access to showers, food, and other necessities that the rest of us take for granted.
Adults are being persecuted for seeking asylum, their children ripped from their arms.
Congresswomen of color are being told to go back to their countries, when three out of four were born here in the U.S.A and the fourth came here as a child.
Pedophiles are being defended. Rape allegations are going un-investigated and ignored.
What will it take, America? What will it take to see that Donald Trump is a dictator in the making? When will you wake up and see that he is not who you think he is?
For all of our sakes, I hope it’s soon.
