New Evidence Indicates Rep. Ilhan Omar Lied About Her Marital History
New evidence indicates that Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar was residing with her current husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, while also being legally married to another man, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
Omar was married to Elmi in 2009 and later divorced in 2017.
Between 2002 and 2008, Omar was religiously married to her current husband, Hirsi. They were never legally married. In 2008, Omar and Hirsi decided to end their relationship.
In 2009, Omar married Elmi. In 2011, she claims that they religiously divorced. However, they delayed their legal divorce until 2017.
In 2011, when Omar religiously divorced Elmi, she reconciled with her current husband. After Omar and Elmi legally divorced, she legally married Hirsi in 2018.
The Washington Examiner uncovered a trail of traffic violations and misdemeanor charges that indicate Hirsi and Omar were living together between 2006 and 2012. Yet, when questioned about her marriages, she claims to be separated from Hirsi between 2008 until 2011 when they “reconciled.”
This newfound information only fuels the flames, as Omar is currently under scrutiny for filing a joint tax return in 2014 and 2015 with her current husband Hirsi, although they were not legally married, as she was still legally married to Elmi.
Some outlets have questioned whether Elmi is Omar’s brother. However, there is no evidence to corroborate this.
The roller-coaster ride of martial information does not end here though; the documents that helped uncover this information reveal that Omar, Hirsi, and Elmi were potentially all living together.
Omar and Hirsi listed an address in Cedar Riverside, Minnesota between 2006 and 2012. Yet, in 2009, Omar and Elmi listed an address in Columbia Heights, Minnesota on their marriage application. In 2009, Hirsi registered a business to the very same address in Columbia Heights.
During her divorce proceedings in 2017 to Elmi, Omar told the judge that she had not contacted or known the whereabouts of Elmi since the summer of 2011. She wrote this under penalty of perjury. The judge also ruled that Omar could divorce Elmi using “alternate means.”
Elmi persistently asked AlphaNews to take down photos and information of him, as it was against the law in the United Kingdom to use photographs of a private citizen without said individual’s permission.
Nonetheless, Elmi did confirm that it was him in the 2016 picture standing near Omar.
Elmi’s Instagram account is no longer active.
Omar has yet to personally respond to the allegations set against her. However, her spokesman Jeremy Slevin issued a statement asserting that these allegations are false.
“Since before she was elected to office, Ilhan has been the subject of conspiracy theories and false accusations about her personal life. Emboldened by a president who openly treats immigrants, refugees and Muslims as invaders, these attacks often stem from the presumption that Ilhan—like others who share those identities—is somehow illegitimate or not fully American. Ilhan has shared more than most public officials ever do about the details of her personal life—even when it is personally painful,” he continued.
“Whether by colluding with right-wing outlets to go after Muslim elected officials or hounding family members, legitimate media outlets have a responsibility not to fan the flames of hate. Continuing to do so is not only demeaning to Ilhan, but to her entire family,” Slevin said.
