German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas arrived in Tehran, on a visit and meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Javad Zarif. Maas travelled to Iran in an attempt to salvage what is left of the failed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Prior to arriving in Tehran, he travelled to other countries such as Jordan, UAE and Iraq, in order to ease the growing tensions in the region.

Germany has reiterated its commitment to the Obama-era deal. “We standing clearly on one side…to preserve the nuclear accord,” a German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Thursday.

Germany however, is said to be annoyed with Tehran on several fronts; beginning with their ongoing missile activities, as well as the Khomeinist control of Yemen’s Houthis and their presence in Syria. Berlin is also said to be alarmed by Tehran’s ongoing terrorist activities in Europe, in addition to Tehran’s reluctance to enforce international guidelines against money laundering and financial support for terrorist groups.

At the same time, the Khomeinist regime is infuriated with Germany’s failure to help it bypass US sanctionsTehran expects Germany, France, and the UK to protect its profitable oil market against  escalating U.S. sanctions.

Knowing that the meeting will likely not glean any firm results, the IRGC owned Javan newspaper ‘welcomed’ Maas with a cartoon of the German Foreign Minister making a Sieg Heil salute, wearing a low ranking Nazi functionary armband, Star of David shaped glasses, and a U.S. flag tie. The headline reads “the fascist expectation of Europe’s envoy.”
