Today I am going to talk about some of the ways that AI is solving some of the most challenging problems. Focusing on 6 tangible use cases.
- AI in military — Military professionals now seem to be using drones implementing AI using machine vision in accordance with the mechanical devices and navigational instruments. AI drones leverage functionality for Surveillance, Autonomous Vehicle, Landmine removal or Quality Control for Ordnance manufacturing. These drones are trained on supervised algorithms and some of the military defence contractors like — Sheild.AI, Neurala, AeroVironment and LockHeed Martin claims to provide AI functionality in their drones for conducting reconnaissance, patrol mission, indoor navigation. The military uses drones for ISR (Intelligence, Security and Reconnaissance) missions every day. Countries like Israel and USA are typically bringing this machine vision for modernizing their military forces.
2. AI in fin-tech –The humongous amount of text and raw data collected and stored by banks allows them to use AI, for example,implementing Chatbots or Natural Language Processing. These chatbots are digital assistants/advisors who help their clients in taking smarter insurance decisions, spending and secured plans. Also, chatbots can be used for transaction search and visualization to detect the meaning of the user query and articulate decisions based on their queries. Bank of America uses a bot named Erica serving the bank as a digital financial assistant for their client’s base which was further adopted by one million users in three months. It even occupied itself in Algorithmic trading to predict the performance of securities in a portfolio using predictive analysis, big data and machine learning. Yseop, a Paris based company claims that their software “Yseop compose” could be used for automating the report generation by using the Yesop rules and helping users contextualize their information when input it with all the financial data, data for risk analysis and so on.
3. AI in construction & buildings — The common motive behind leveraging AI in industries is optimizing the energy cost of buildings. Such initiatives are taken by IBM Watson IoT platform where users can also integrate their building system in this platform and the data gathered from sensors in a room can be used as an evaluation metric by the facility managers leading to optimized solutions. Companies like, Bidgely with the help of data analytics helps customers in reducing their electricity bills by providing them visualized study about the consumption of each appliances and recommends measures of reducing the electric utility bills.
4. AI in HealthCare — By 2025, experts claim that the interest of AI in healthcare will be in boom phase and adopted by almost most of the hospitals. The prime reason why hospitals want AI software is to improve “Health Outcomes”. Also, bringing improvement in the area of chronic conditions — especially diabetes tops the list of diseases. Companies like H20.ai, Tallius, CloudEra claims their AI software’s to become an intersection between healthcare and AI by helping healthcare businesses streamline their business to deliver patient care using machine learning, improve patient satisfaction and outcomes using Natural Language Processing (NLP) helping physicians to bring insights in diagnosis of ailment.
5. AI in oil and gas Industry — The increasing demand for oil and gas fields a high priority needs for companies in this era termed as the exploration and production of the oil and gas industry. Finding out optimized solutions in this field is where AI might help oil and gas companies. Top industries like ExxonMobil ranked as the top ranked companies in Oil industry announced that its working with MIT to design AI robots for ocean exploration and has even invested $25 million in five years to the energy research department of MIT.
6. AI in Women Security — A random phone call to any girl/woman at the middle of night could be scary but at the same time the call needs to be received if it’s an emergency call. In such a terrifying situation, one thing which could be of help is to develop an algorithm which can translate any girl’s/women voice to a male’s voice. This would bring surety whether the incoming call is just a fake one or not.
