DOYLESTOWN — The Veterans Committee of the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown, each year, searches for military charities that support local military members or veterans and their families.

One of this year’s six recipients is the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania.

A recent report from the Veterans Administration showed that suicide rates for younger veterans increased by more than 10 percent and was 1.5 times greater than for Americans who never served in the military. Constant separations and stress also affect families.

The Cohen Veterans Network Inc., a not-for-profit philanthropic organization, was created to serve veterans and their families by providing high-quality, accessible and integrated mental health care.

Locally, the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania provides high-quality, personalized, integrated mental health care to veterans and the entire military family — at no cost.

The clinic also offers telehealth, which provides secure video conferences for patients not able to meet in person. Telehealth is convenient and equally as effective as in-patient therapy.
