Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Donald Trump biographer David Cay Johnston says the Republican Party is dying a slow death through their total obedience to the president and apparent disregard for his lack of morality.
Johnston spoke to SiriusXM Radio host Dean Obeidallah about what he learned of Trump after covering him for more than 20 years. During this interview, he painted a very bleak picture by saying “Donald Trump is a man utterly without conscience or regard for other people.”
“When you and I step on an ant on the sidewalk walking down the street we don’t give it any thought,” he continued. “Sorry for the ant, you’re in the wrong place. It’s not even a thought we stop and worry about. Donald Trump steps on people and it doesn’t impinge on him in any way. This is the man that publicly humiliated the mother of his three oldest children and they didn’t speak to him for years.”
When the discussion turned to Ron DeSantis‘ pursuit of the governorship of Florida, Johnston drew a connection between Trump and the gubernatorial candidate’s controversial “monkey this up” comments about Andrew Gillum. Johnston ripped GOP figures for being too cowardly to stand up to Trump, and he proclaimed “We are seeing the Republican party die right before our eyes and become the cult of Trump.”
“I grew up under not terrific circumstances because my father was 100 percent disabled veteran of World War II. My dad was willing to go die for this country and suffered terrible consequences and died prematurely because of it. These guys are afraid to speak the truth because they’ll get voted out of office? That’s just so lacking in character and honor that I can’t respect those people.”
