“Fire with Fire”: The Case for #Avenatti2020

Democrats must nominate a fighter who can stand toe to toe with Donald Trump in 2020 and win. Michael Avenatti might just be the answer.

When Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the presidency in 2015, most people did not take him seriously. Sadly, the more the media continued to dismiss him, the more Trump’s popularity and influence rose.

And now…here we are.

A few weeks ago, Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti turned heads when he stated that he would consider running for president in 2020 if Trump seeks re-election and there is “no other candidate in the race that has a REAL chance at beating him.”

Mr. Avenatti has now taken things a few steps further.

Anyone that thinks the Dem party can nominate another career politician like the other 16/17 Trump beat in 2016 and defeat him in 2020 is kidding themselves. What makes you think #18 is going to be different? All the experience in the world means nothing unless you can beat him.

This is a obviously a clear jab at those saying “we don’t need another celebrity” or “we need a candidate with real political experience”.

And I get it.

I know Avenatti hasn’t held any elected office.

I know he doesn’t have any political experience.

I know that there is a good chance he’s doing all this just to build his brand.

And I (like most people) don’t want to see another celebrity make it to the White House.

But think about this. Really think. Who in the Democratic party today has what it takes to go up against Trump and actually win?

Sure, there are plenty of really great potential candidates:

  • Joe Biden
  • Elizabeth Warren
  • Kamala Harris
  • Cory Booker
  • Michael Bloomberg
  • Kirsten Gillibrand
  • Eric Swalwell

They all have excellent credentials and political experience. And I would proudly put my support behind any of them if they were to be the Democratic nominee. But let’s be completely honest. Do any of these potential candidates really have the guts and fight to beat Trump at his own game?

People say they don’t want another celebrity like Trump in office. They say “look where that has gotten us”.

But here’s the difference between Trump and Avenatti.

Unlike Mr. Trump, Michael Avenatti knows that an effective leader surrounds himself with smart capable people and actually listens to them.

There’s no doubt that Avenatti would do his homework, study policy, and prepare himself well.

There’s already evidence of that as Avenatti recently spent time in the battleground state of Iowa talking to voters and potential supporters.

He gave a great speech at the 2018 Iowa Wing Ding, an annual fundraiser hosted by a coalition of northern Iowa Democratic county parties.

Read the entire prepared remarks below:

Sure, it’s just one speech. But, it’s a solid first step on the path to beating Trump.

Trump must be defeated in 2020. The fate of our country and the entire world depend on that. And the only way we beat Trump is to nominate a fighter.

Michael Avenatti is that fighter.

Buckle up, buttercup.
