Paul Manafort Says He’s Being Treated Like a ‘VIP’ In Jail

Remember Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager? Remember that he was charged last year with laundering more than $30 million he received while lobbying for a pro-Russia political party in Ukraine and was subsequently ordered to go to jail due to witness tampering? Remember the other day, when he received a brief burst of goodwill when it was reported that he was being held in solitary confinement in said jail?

Apparently, Manafort himself feels like he’s being treated like a “VIP” while in jail awaiting trial, and is not actually confined to a cell for most of the day, according to a court document filed today by special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s team.

As detailed in the filing, Manafort enjoys “unique privileges” such as a “private, self-contained living unit” with his own “bathroom and shower facility, his own personal telephone, and his own workspace to prepare for a trial.”

He also has access to his own laptop, and and, as the filing states, the “jail has made extra accommodations for Manafort’s use of the laptop, including providing him an extension cord to ensure the laptop can be used in his unit and not just in the separate workroom.”

I too would one day like to have my very own private, self-contained living unit, but for now will stick to the apartment in Brooklyn that I share with two roommates, in which I once found a drowned, very dead, overgrown rat in the toilet of our shared bathroom facility.
