CFA is currently hosting a solo exhibition featuring the works of Georg Baselitz, titled “Hommage a Georg Baselitz”.
Marking the 80th birth anniversary of the German painter, the exhibition presents a retrospective of the artist’s works by presenting a collection of works taken from the Berlinische Galerie, the Kunsthalle Bielefeld and a few private collections. Born in January 1938, Baselitz studied at the Hochschule für bildende und angewandte Kunst in East Berlin where he studied under professors Walter Womacka and Herbert Behrens-Hangler, and befriended Peter Graf and Ralf Winkler. Baselitz came into the limelight for his upside-down images. He is seen as a revolutionary painter as he draws the viewer’s attention to his works by making them think and sparking their interest.. Throughout his career, Baselitz has varied his style, ranging from layering substances to his style, since the 1990s, which focuses more on lucidity and smooth changes. Through today his work is infused by presence of mind, virtuosity, a plenitude of associations, mastery, and skill. This exhibition brings together selected examples of Baselitz’s accomplishments from 1963 to the present.
The exhibition will be on view through March 3, 2018, at CFA, Grolmanstraße 32/33, 10623 Berlin – Charlottenburg, Germany.
