Many intellectuals in the Country credit Jawaharlal Nehru for his Secular Politics.Notably, by the Historian Mr.Ramachandra Guha who has paid rich econiums for Nehru’s Secular Credentials. It looks as though Mr,Guha has completely overlooked some of the following instances in his eagerness to paint the Secularism of Nehru.

Nehru as the P.M. interfered with the Personal Laws of the Hindu Community and got the Hindu Code Bill passed by the Parliament-where as he never interfered with the personal laws of other communities. Thus giving the impression that only Hindus required reforms and not others.

Further he brought a legislation to acquire the Administration of Hindu Temples in the Country and also brought in legislation to acquire the immovable properties of the Hindu Temples and Mutts, totally ignoring the immovable Properties of other Communities.

It would have been very easy for Nehru to bring in Uniform Civil Code then itself,as both India and Pakistan were created purely on Religious Basis.

After Independence Somanath Temple in Gujarat was renovated by leading personalities of that time like Babu Rajendra Prasad,Sardar Patel and K..Munshi.At that time Nehru opposed it totally and said that the Government would not release a single rupee as India was supposed to be a Secular Country.Babu Rajendra Prasad, the then PResident was invited to inaugurate the Temple, but Nehru opposed it again quoting the Secularism of India!!But Babu Prasad went ahead and inaugurated the Temple not as the President of India but as a Private Citizen.

In those times there were no adequate facilities for Muslims to undertake their annual Haj Pilgrimage.Nehru-as the PM brought in a lot of pressure on Private Ship Owners to ply their Vessels to Saudi Arabia- this was entirely not profitable to them, but they had to oblige Nehru because he was the Prime Minister.

Again during the period of Eclipses-Nehru took great pains to criticize the Hindu Practices as Superstitious and that they were as a Community Backward. He never dared to criticize the existing superstitions in other communities.

These are some of the examples of the Late Jawaharlal Nehru and his Brand of Secularism. We can safely conclude that appeasement of minorities was started by none other than the First Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru!!
