CMA Awards Open With Serious Tribute – Then Hilarious Trump Parody ‘Before He Tweets’ (Watch) – Variety

Against steep odds, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood pulled off an introduction to the CMA Awards that veered from somber and serious tragedy tribute to CMA self-parody to a hilarious Trump parody in a matter of minutes.

The pair opened by paying tribute to the victims of the spate of mass shootings and natural disasters in recent months, noting that the shooting targeted country music fans and offering support to the victims and the grieving.

They then deftly transitioned into saying that they’d received guidelines about what they could discuss — a nod to the guidelines the CMA dictated to members of the media, telling them not to ask about shootings, guns or politics or be ejected, an order that was quickly retracted after Paisley criticized it on Twitter — and Paisley said, “You mean I can’t play this?” and then strummed snippets of politically relevant parodies (“No more ‘Hold Me Closer, Bernie Sanders’?”), until Underwood finally joined him on an actually very funny spoof of Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” called “Before He Tweets,” about guess who…

“Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, watching cable news and reaching for his cellphone
Right now he’s probably asking Siri how in the hell you spell Pocahontas
Well here we go…
In the middle of the night from the privacy
Of a gold-plated White House toilet seat
He writes ‘Little Bob Corker, NFL and covfefe’ [they joke over pronunciation]

“It’s fun to watch here that’s for sure
Until little rocket man starts a nuclear war
And then maybe next time he’ll think before he tweets.”

The spoof drew an uproarious reaction from the crowd at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
