Currently, there’re a multitude of different ideologies floating around in the political debate. Some ideologies are extremely mainstream like conservatism, liberalism, socialism and so on, whereas others aren’t even recognizable by most people like agorism, minarchism and so forth.
In this article I want to talk about the concept of Pinochetian-Minarchism, which is more of a meme than an actual academical and philosophical ideology, however I think it’s important to discuss new ideas and elaborate different points of view.
As most of you may already know, Pinochet was a right-wing statesman who saved Chile from becoming a communist hell, furthermore he implemented free-market policies in the South American country, especially because Pinochet was advised by the Chicago Boys, including Milton Friedman.
By “Pinochetian” I mean Pinochet should be seen as a dilly of a leader and as a hero, as it’s important to analyze the historical context of the 1973 Chilean coup d’etat., in other words if it wasn’t by authoritarian means Pinochet wouldn’t be able to wipe the commies out of his country and perhaps, Chile would be a communist dystopia by now.
Minarchism is defined by Wikipedia as: a libertarian political philosophy which advocates for the state to exist solely to provide a very small number of services. In other words it can be defined as a small state.
In Pinochetian-Minarchism one of the major functions of the state would be to protect the country from internal and external threats, like communist organizations.
Moreover, the state would exist to protect citizens against violations of property rights like aggressions, thefts and so on.
Besides that, most state-owned enterprises would be privatized, tariffs would be slash, as well as government welfare programs and taxes.
The Fundamental Principles of Pinochetian-Minarchism
Pinochetian-Minarchism can be divided into three fundamental principles: Economic Liberalization, Anti-communism and Physical Removal.
Pinochetian-Minarchism economic system can be easily identified as free-market capitalism, more specifically Chicago Boys Milton Friedman’s “Neoliberalism”, even though Austrian School economists like Ludwig Von Mises are perfectly compatible with Pinochetian-Minarchism as well.
This economic system supports economic liberalization policies such as privatization, deregulation, free trade, low taxes, etc.
Pinochetian-Minarchism disavows communism because it is an abhorrent ideology that threats property rights, family, traditional values and society as a whole.
And obviously because it doesn’t fucking works.
Physical Removal is a term coined by libertarian author Hans-Hermann Hoppe, he argues that people with anti-property rights views like democrats and communists must be physically remove to maintain a libertarian order.
-In a covenant…among proprietor and community tenants for the purpose of protecting their private property, no such thing as a right to free (unlimited) speech exists, not even to unlimited speech on one’s own tenant-property. One may say innumerable things and promote almost any idea under the sun, but naturally no one is permitted to advocate ideas contrary to the very covenant of preserving and protecting private property, such as democracy and communism. There can be no tolerance toward democrats and communists in a libertarian social order. They will have to be physically separated and removed from society. - Hans-Hermann Hoppe’s 2001 book “Democracy: The God That Failed”
Obviously, Hoppe is an ancap, so he doesn’t think the state has the legitimacy to physically remove anyone, however as a minarchist I’m sure it would be necessary to physically remove communists to ensure the minarchy is not threatened.
After all, Pinochetian-Minarchism is an anti-communist ideology that supports free-market capitalism, Physical Removal of communists and a Minarchy.
