Anthony Meier Fine Arts presents Sarah Cain’s “Racing with the Moon” at its San Francisco venue.
Sarah Cain’s “Racing with the Moon” is her fourth show at the gallery, and features bold, multi-layered canvases that vibrate with raw, boisterous energy, balanced by sophisticated style, meticulous craftsmanship, and sharp intelligence. The artist addresses stereotypical notions of femininity, sexuality, and strength. Her painting, aptly titled, “Bras and Further” incorporates worn lacy lingerie into the painted surface. In the exhibit, the viewer is confronted directly with the by-products of Cain’s femaleness, as a piece of the whole. Cain loves to mix fluid graffiti, spray paint, and splash-and-splatter application within her more structured templates. She showcases an ease of visual movement with both spirit and form.
Sarah Cain lives and works in Los Angeles and has an MFA from University of California at Berkeley and BFA from San Francisco Art Institute. Along with her exhibition at Anthony Meier Fine Arts, Cain’s site-specific exterior wall work “Now I’m Going to Tell You Everything” will also be on view at ICA LA through December 31. She will install a large-scale permanent glass wall commissioned by San Francisco Arts Commission in the newly-renovated San Francisco International Airport Terminal I. Her solo works include “Sarah Cain, Aspen Art Museum” at Elk Camp on Snowmass Mountain, Colorado, and “Now I’m Going to Tell You Everything” at Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA).
The exhibition will be on view from October 13 through November 17, 2017 at Anthony Meier Fine Arts, 1969 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94109.
