Cameron Crowe, Kings of Leon, and more pay tribute to Tom Petty

Following the reported death of rock and roll legend Tom Petty on Monday, fellow icons of the music world ond and beyhave offered an outpouring of support, sadness, and memories.

Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after being found in full cardiac arrest. He was put on life support for a period of time, but was later removed from it on Monday, CBS reportedly confirmed. He was 66.

“This is unbearable. Vegas and now a great music hero has passed,” Sheryl Crow tweeted. “You brought us so much joy, @tompetty. We will miss you. I feel like today, the music truly died. Can’t go see/hear music and be safe and one of the greats just passed.”

“Tom Petty was one of the biggest inspirations for me as a musician,” tweeted Kings of Leon’s Nathan Followill. “This one will hurt for a long time. Truly one of the sweetest people on earth. Rest in Peace brother.”

“No words. Just thanks,” wrote Petty’s frequent collaborator, director Cameron Crowe.

“Tom Petty. One of the greatest songwriters of our generation,” Nikki Sixx said. “Thank you for ALL the music. Prayers to your family & band members. #RIPTomPetty.”
