Melville House Publishing unveiled a new initiative to send every member of U.S. Congress a copy of its book, A Citizen’s Guide to Impeachment. In the title, Barbara Radnofsky traces the history of impeachment in the U.S. and outlines the rules and process behind it.
The publisher is asking readers to buy the book, which published on Sept. 12, for a discounted price of $8 through a dedicated page on its website. Each copy of A Citizen’s Guide to Impeachment purchased through the page will be mailed to an elected official within the legislative branch, with the goal of getting the book to all 535 members of Congress.
This year’s flurry of fur and feathers was provoked by a tirade from Colin Thubronon celebrity endorsements. Some blurbs, said the veteran travel writer, “almost blackmail” readers into feeling that “you’re either intellectually or morally incompetent if you don’t love this book or you’ve failed if you haven’t understood it”. Some people, he felt, “seem to earn their living … saying: ‘This is the most profound book of our generation.’”
