An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a woman in her 30s, whose body was found in a Waltham home early Saturday morning, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Waltham police responded to a report of an assault on a woman in an Adams Street house at about 2:40 a.m. When officers entered the home, they found the woman dead, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Derrick Lopez of Waltham is in custody in connection with the death, and has been charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, as well as armed assault with intent to murder, according to the statement.
“This is not believed to be a random incident and there is no danger to the public,” said the statement.
The woman’s death is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, the Massachusetts State Police and Waltham police. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, the statement said.
The district attorney said no further information will be released pending notification of the woman’s next of kin and the medical examiner’s ruling.
