Local jewelry designer Nicole Romano celebrated the launch of her Futura Collection at Bastille Kitchen Thursday night with guests including restaurateur and hospitality executive Seth Greenberg, former Ed Sox catcher Jason Varitek, and author Ben Mezrich. Proceeds support the Anthony Quinn Foundation scholarship program. . . . The Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn was back on his old stamping grounds at Boston College on Friday, visiting with students to talk about “Kerouac, writing, etc.,” according to Instagram, where he shared a photo of himself on campus. He wrote in the caption that he had chicken pox and mononucleosis at the same time during his junior year and was quarantined for almost 30 days, so his recent visit was a definite improvement: “Today I felt really healthy and enjoyed myself a great deal, so maybe I’m a successful alumnus after all,” he wrote. . . . Mel Gibson was spotted at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston at Assembly Row on Saturday, there with daughter, Lucia, one of his nine children. . . . Actress Taraji P. Henson — in town for the filming of “Proud Mary,” a Babak Najafi-directed film about a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston — dined at Legal Harborside Saturday night.
