UK’s ‘hottest day of the year’ could reach 26 degrees

Parts of the UK are having the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching almost 23C.

By midday, it was 22.6C at London’s Kew Gardens – with temperatures forecast to reach 26C later.

The East Midlands and parts of East Anglia are among the sunniest areas, while Scotland and Northern Ireland have been cooler.

The Met Office said temperatures are expected to go back to normal by Monday – dropping by as much as 10 degrees.

Forecasters have warned people not to get caught out by the sun, saying it can be as strong in April as in August and September.

Forecaster Luke Miall said: “It catches people out so everyone needs to make sure they have their sun cream on.”
