From his earliest days on the campaign trail, Donald Trump proclaimed his contempt for what he dismissed as “nation-building.” In his first speech as U.S. president, he vowed never to “impose our way of life” on any nation. And in his first speech to Congress, he declared that all countries have a right to “chart their own path.”
