A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Roxbury near Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday night, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Boston Medical Center, Boston police spokesman Dave Estrada said.
Boston police were still on scene investigating the crash at about 10:00 p.m. The intersection was blocked off in all directions by yellow caution tape and several Boston police vehicles.
A winter coat and a navy purse with its contents spilled out were visible in the road, not far from the crosswalk at Massachusetts Avenue.
The items lay in front of what appeared to be a black Subaru.
An ambulance left the scene with sirens and lights flashing just after 9:30 p.m.
Gabe Rivera, 18, of South Boston, stopped at the scene with a friend after the pair had left a nearby gym.
“I don’t cross here,” Rivera said. “I make sure not to cross on this street.”
No further information about the incident was immediately available late Tuesday night.
